Up Where He Belongs
A huge word of thanks to past pupil Niall Colgan who made the perfect landing in the Academy on Tuesday morning. The twenty-three year old Ryanair pilot gave a superb presentation on what it takes to make it in the aviation industry and, also, offered some excellent advice and guidance on the wider world of selection and recruitment. Niall explained the benefits of the mentorship programme currently on offer through the Cork-based Atlantic Flight Training Company (in partnership with Ryanair), before outlining his own personal journey from classroom to flight deck. Special thanks to his co-pilot for the day, First Officer Aodhan Lonergan, a past pupil of St Paul’s High School, Bessbrook, and to Academy past pupil Ethan Sherry who completed the high-flying trio. Niall was later able to to meet up with some of his former teachers including Mr Slater, who passed him fit to fly, Mrs Louise Callaghan who put him over his angle of attack and Mr Mark Shields (his Form teacher) who delivered a rambling and disturbing one act monologue in praise of Michael O’Leary. Academy’s new runway to follow…and then we have it all!
