The Gold Standard
Very well done to four innovative Year 13 students, Brogan Mullan, Mark Lyttle, Wiktoria Kania and Jarlath Swail, all of whom received Gold Crest Awards from the British Science Association following their work on a Sentinus Team R+D Programme. Participation in the Sentinus programme is a highly valued part of the Academy’s commitment to the wider STEM agenda with students across every Key Stage being offered frequent opportunities to develop their scientific and technological skillsets. The Academy students were mentored by engineers from Terex Corporation with whom they collaborated on the resolution of floor space issues at the Edendork plant and succeeded in designing a rotatable jig allowing two machines to be built on one platform. The students’ final report was presented to an independent group of engineers who were sufficiently impressed by the project to award the highest Gold Crest Award. Thanks to the Head of Physics, Mrs Mary McLaughlin, for her guidance and oversight of the project. We wish this golden team every engineering success in the future and thank especially the outstanding design and engineering team at Terex which has mentored, supported and encouraged the Academy project in every possible way.
Golden moment…Brogan Mullan, Mark Lyttle, Wiktoria Kania and Jarlath Swail.
