Very well done to Stephen McVeigh for his entry in the Allstate APP IT OUT competition where he picked up a goodie bag for his inventive and creative design. The competition, in partnership with the DOE and the PSNI, is aimed at raising awareness amongst teenagers about road safety. Stephen is pictured, left, receiving his prize from Hayley Ferguson, Allstate NI. And a big thank you to Allstate NI for an excellent Sixth Form road safety workshop highlighting the dangers of texting while driving. The students were invited to take part in an interactive Mario Kart ‘X the Txt’ game where they had to try and use a mobile phone whilst driving. Using the Nintendo Wii, they were required to send a text to illustrate the difficulties and dangers of driving whilst distracted. It soon became clear that it was not possible to send a text whilst paying full attention to the road ahead. Deaths on the roads have a devastating impact on families, friends and our society and this programme was a timely reminder to all our young learners and drivers of their responsibilities whilst on the road.
