Official School Opening and Blessing and Dedication of the Oratory
A momentous and long awaited occasion for the Academy. These new facilities are the result of decades of planning that initially resulted in the amalgamation of St Patrick’s Boys’ and Girls’ Academies. President McAleese visited the school on the occasion of its amalgamation in 2003 and it is fitting that President Higgins has come to open this new building. We were overwhelmed by the respect President Higgins demonstrated to each member of our school community and genuine interest and enjoyment he showed while carefully and attentively speaking to our pupils. It was a privilege to listen to him address our invited guests and assembled pupils and we remember his inspirational words “We are all carriers of our history and in many ways our day to day lives are shaped by what happened decades and even centuries ago.” Similarly, as Cardinal Conway blessed the old school at its opening in 1975, we were honoured to have Archbishop Eamon Martin with us to bless this new building and to dedicate the Oratory. We are immensely humbled by Archbishop Eamon Martin’s presence in our school and encouraged by his inspirational homily to put Christ at the centre of all our lives reciting St. Patrick’s Breastplate and reflecting his own personal faith experiences with the guidance of his words ‘God between us and all harm’. This is a day our catholic school community will always remember and cherish.
May this school continue to shine the light of learning on all who pass through its doors.
