Beijing Summer Camp – Gaeltacht goes global…
10 of our pupils accompanied by 2 teachers embarked on a trip of a lifetime to Beijing in July to participate in a summer camp for just under 3 weeks. This was an amazing experience of Chinese life and culture as pupils were fully immersed in the language and life of the local people.
Mrs Boyle recalls their experience:
“We all quickly learned the art of using chop sticks as these were the only utensils provided to eat with… apart from your hands of course! From Monday to Friday pupils attended language and cultural classes which were delivered by excellent teachers who ensured that classes were fun and enjoyable. Everyone’s Mandarin language skills developed so much that even Mr Boyle thought that he must have been Chinese in a previous life! There was plenty of time spent outside the classroom also as we visited all the famous sights in Beijing such as The Great wall, Tianamen Square, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace, The Bird’s Nest and of course the Silk Market possibly being the biggest hit as we had to return twice! ”
The Chinese adventure was truly a memorable and enjoyable experience for all involved. The pupils can put their language skills into practice at the Mandarin classes in school which recommence at the end of September. New members welcome!
