She won the nation’s hearts when she won the Voice UK – Andrea Begley joins performers for An Evening of Celebration

The plans for An Evening of Celebration on February 3, 2018 are well underway. What a fantastic start to 2018 this will be. This gala night is to help future proof our new school which opens early next year.  Andrea Begley is just one of our past pupils  who will be performing at the gala evening.

Andrea Begley, originally from Pomeroy, attended  St Patrick’s Girls Academy from 1998 to 2003 and then St Patrick’s Academy from 2003 to 2005.

In 2013, Andrea won the nation’s hearts when she competed in and won the second series of The Voice UK.

All eyes were on the screens that night with the whole of Tyrone on tenterhooks hoping Andrea would be crowned the winner.

In the final Andrea had chosen to sing My Immortal by Evanescence, before joining Danny O’Donoghue’s band The Script to perform Hall Of Fame, and then singing Angel by Sarah McLachlan in the final round.

O’Donoghue, an Irish singer-songwriter, told the audience how proud he was of his mentee.

He said: “It just proves that a great, great singer with a great song, you can knock down walls, you can smash down anything they put in front of you.”

Turning to Begley, he added: “You’re an inspiration to me. I’ve learned more from you than you have from me.”

Andrea subsequently released her album The Message which reached Number Seven in the UK album charts.

Since then, she has went on to perform in prestigious venues across the UK, Ireland and China.

Andrea maintains a keen interest in charity work and she acts as an ambassador for the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People).

As well as this Andrea also works for the Department of Health as a policy advisor and is currently working towards a PHD in Politics.

We are really looking forward to seeing Andrea perform at An Evening of Celebration. Individual tickets for the event cost £100. Andrea will join a host of other past pupils including Broadway actor Fra Fee, composer and musician Ryan Molloy, soprano Gemma Prince, baritone Karl McGuckin, singer/songwriter Mairéad Duffy, brothers Ronan and Ruairi Stewart of Cúig and the band, 3’s A Crowd.

There will be a five course meal, guest speakers, an auction and a raffle and it’s a great opportunity too to network. So get your friends together and come along to what will be a fantastic evening.

All proceeds from this evening will go towards the running costs of the school and will ensure the school’s management team, teaching staff and pupils can continue to focus on achieving excellence together.

This is a ticketed only event. To secure a table or book individual tickets contact [email protected]. The school is also welcoming expressions of interest from past pupils who have an interest in joining St Patrick’s Academy Alumni Association.
