Background ~ (Nov 09 - written by Clare McDonald - Press Officer)
The Bar National Mock Trial Competition has been running since 1991. St. Patrick’s Academy has been taking part since 2004. Now in our sixth year of competing, the team is more determined than ever to take home the top prize.
Annually, students from schools all across the UK form teams and perform the roles of Barristers, Witnesses, Court Staff and Jurors in fictional cases. Over 2000 students from 200 schools are involved every year and the students on this years team hope that in the 2009/10 competition they will come up trumps.

Previous Success ~
Although the Academy team has never won the Mock Trial Competition (runners-up in the Belfast heat 2008) members of previous teams have been successful in other areas of the competition.
In 2006, Court Reporter, Orla Dynes won the Regional Court Reporter Competition. Her report also went on to the National Final which made her the overall winner in the UK. Also, Press Officer Sinead wylie won the Regional Press Officer Competition.

Competition Result ~ (December 09)
The Bar National Mock Trial team were runners-up in this year’s Northern Ireland Final (for the second year in a row). It really was a marvellous achievement to have reached the final round on the day. They were the only team to have won all three rounds in the initial stages but were beaten by Aquinas by a very narrow margin.
Clare McDonald achieved first place in the Press Officer competition, and her portfolio is being entered into the National Final in March.
Mrs L O’Neill praises her 2009 team:
“They really were a great team to work with and should feel very proud of their dedication, hard work and, most importantly, their team work”.
